Getting used to Melbourne

Copy_of_img_3217_1This is our KEY! doesn’t it look like a dog tag?

Img_3255_1Now it does. This is St Kilda Beach during sunset. The time was 835pm!

We’ve started our first day today. We were warmly greeted and had quite a long session of enrolment porcedure. Even lunch was provided!

After that we ad our first CSU session. It’s called ICM (i forgot what it means) here. :o) The topic was GI system. Ganesh demonstrated and I was the SP.. So he began as what we’ll do usually.. Greeted and asked for the hand and started reporting: His hands are dry and warr… Before he could finish his word, Dr Petrina stopped him. Apparently, we are not required to report whatever we did. Just look and move on, even the eyes, and the abdomen! Light palpation.. just feel and then tell the patient that i’m going to press again, but harder this time. We only have to palpate and percuss for liver span, palpate for spleen and auscultate for bowel sounds. No reporting needed at all. Forget about shifting dullness, fluid thrill, percuss for spleen (she has not heard of the term ‘traube’s space’!).. Top of all, they are given 9 mins! :o)

There’s a bit of culture shock everyone felt. But CSU wise, i think we are on the advantageous side. Tmr we’ll have lessons on theory. Hopefully we can do well too! :o)
